ABOUT
HYPNOTHERAPY

what is hypnosis

01

hypnosis is a process of guiding and holding your attention. a trance is the state of mind that results from that process — a state of absorbed attention in which the conscious mind quiets, the nervous system relaxes, and the subconscious mind becomes accessible.

how hypnotherapy works

02

hypnotherapy works through suggestion — ideas (suggestions) are presented to the mind, and the mind either accepts or rejects them. when a suggestion is accepted, we carry out the suggestion automatically. if it is rejected, nothing happens. a hypnotherapy session is then the process of offering suggestions and observing how the mind and body respond.

suggestions are delivered through use of language patterns, storytelling, metaphors, and guided imagery. to create a trance, suggestions are designed to distract the conscious mind and relax the body. to change behaviors, suggestions are tailored to reshape beliefs, emotional responses, and patterns that support who you want to become.

a suggestion will not be accepted if it conflicts with a person’s current beliefs, their lived experience, their sense of safety, their identity. the subconscious filters every idea through these criteria and anything that doesn’t fit is simply ignored.

it is the practitioner’s job to offer the right suggestions, in the right way so that acceptance is possible — but the power to change is entirely within the mind of the person themself.

FAQ

  • each session is unique and tailored to what you need in that moment to clear old patterns. sessions are conversational in nature, and the objective is to remain present and engaged throughout the entire session.

the core elements of each session:

    • pretalk: discuss current experience, desired direction, and shifts between sessions

    • induction: offer suggestions to create trance: a state of absorbed, focused attention

    • core integration: continue offering suggestions that target core beliefs, identity patterns, emotional responses, protective strategies. this can look like guided imagery, parts work, regression, anchor states, and/or general storytelling

  • the number of sessions depends on the level of support you want and how many layers are involved in the pattern you’re shifting.

change is a spectrum. many people notice shifts after the first session, often as increased awareness or a slowing of previously automatic responses. full integration happens when the new pattern is automatic — it no longer requires conscious effort to show up differently.

the total number of sessions varies by person because most patterns are made up of multiple layers - beliefs, emotions, protective strategies. one session may target one layer, while additional layers may need to be explored in order to change behaviors or external experiences shift.

you don’t need to fix every block or rewrite every belief to create change. experience shows that change happens when the core rule loses authority OR enough supporting “sister” rules are dismantled so the old identity loses authority.

  • ~5-7 days between sessions

the space between sessions gives the subconscious time to integrate what it learned, and gives you an opportunity to notice your behavior through a different lens, test action and see what still comes up

  • a lot of people assume hypnosis is like flipping a switch — one session and everything changes.

but think about how long it took for you to learn the pattern in the first place.

creating sustainable change is a process of both unlearning old patterns and integrating new patterns. both of which takes time.

because this work is done at the subconscious level, we get answers directly from the source — and integrate at the source. which is why this work transcends time.

it is also why change feels subtle. when our minds accept suggestions, our behavior is carried out automatically. meaning, you don’t have to negotiate with yourself to show up differently, you just do. so most people realize in hindsight that things are different.

  • The general sensation of hypnosis is similar to that of the feeling right when you wake up in the morning - your body is very relaxed, you are aware of your surroundings, thoughts start to trickle into your mind, and your sense of time may be skewed.
